Dave Recommends...

Many times when a customer places an order either via this website, over the phone, or in the store, I hear, "There are so many choices on your website. I get overwhelmed with the amount of products you carry." Someone recommended that I create a Dave Recommends page that outlines my personal experience with our product line.

Wheat & Grains

Prairie Gold (86) is my number one selling wheat. It outsells my other wheats 2:1. It's a hard white spring wheat that is lighter in taste than the hard red wheats and makes a great loaf of bread for PB&J... something the kids will eat.

When Mitzi and I make bread, we use a combination of two parts Prairie Gold wheat, two parts spelt berries, and two parts whole oat groats. Spelt is an ancient grain that hasn't changed much in thousands of years. It has a different protein structure than wheat. Sometimes people who have a wheat gluten intolerance can digest spelt protein without issues.

Whole oat groats add a nice, breakfasty, round flavor to the bread and take the wheat edge off the loaf. Remember, it's something you want the kids to enjoy eating.

Our rolled and flaked 7 Grain Mix makes excellent oatmeal raisin cookies. The different textures of the multiple grains add a really nice, non-homogenous feel to the cookie.

Drink Mixes

I was a connosseur of fine instant breakfast beverage crystals growing up. I've tried all kinds of brands, but mostly I loved me some Tang. I would make Tang sandwiches and pinch the edges of the bread shut, I liked it so much. Our orange juice drink has just replaced Tang as my favorite citrus drink. I love the fact that the majority of the ingredients are all-natural. No red dye #5 in this drink, but that means you're not going to get the neon orange color your accustomed to either.
